Merging of two supermassive Black Holes

Image
The NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has shared images of two super massive black holes merging. These black holes are located in Galaxy NGC 6240. They are 3,000 light-years apart and will drift together to form a larger black hole millions of years from now.   The merging process, which began some 30 million years ago, may be the most powerful sources of gravitational waves in the Universe.     Chandra X-ray Observatory It is a telescope designed to detect X-ray emissions from very hot regions of the universe such as exploded stars, clusters of galaxies, and matter around black holes. Orbiting at 139,000 km in space, the telescope was launched aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia during STS-93 by NASA in 1999.

Guess the Height of Mt. Everest ?

Image
Nepal and China jointly certified the elevation of Mount Everest at 8,848.86 metres above sea level. This height is 86 cm higher than what was recognised since 1954 The elevation of 8,848 m was determined by the Survey of India in 1954.  The devastating earthquake of 2015 in Nepal triggered a debate among scientists on whether it had affected the height of Mt Everest.  Nepal’s Survey Department decided to measure the mountain on its own, instead of continuing to follow the Survey of India findings of 1954.  New Zealand, which shares a bond with Nepal over the mountain, provided technical assistance. Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climber on the peak in May 1953, worked as the mountain’s undeclared brand ambassador to the world.

This removal will change the way cannabis is regulated internationally. Both cannabis and cannabis resin will continue to remain on Schedule I, which includes the least dangerous category of substances. India has voted with the majority at the United Nations for its removal. For 59 years, cannabis had been subject to the strictest control schedules, which even discouraged its use for medical purposes. Under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the production, manufacture, possession, sale, purchase, transport, and use of cannabis is a punishable offense.
